Lowcountry 5K: Teal Diva, a Carolina-based nonprofit focused on the mental and emotional health of those affected with a gynecologic cancer diagnosis, is hosting the seventh annual Lowcountry 5K from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, in downtown Summerville. Fishing clinic: Dorchester County Parks and Recreation is hosting a family fishing clinic from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Ashley River Park, 200 Renken Road, Summerville. The program is free with gate admission or park pass.
Block Party: Faith Sellers Senior Center is having a block party from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the center, 312 N. Laurel St., Summerville. There will be demonstrations, a “fan dance” and other activities.
Greenhurst Crime Watch: The next quarterly meeting of Greenhurst Crime Watch is 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Miles Road Baptist Church, 816 Miles Jamison Road in Summerville. Call Marina at 843-819-6905 for more information.
Farmers Market: The Summerville Farmers Market is 8 a.m.-1 p.m. every Saturday until Nov. 25 behind the town hall building.
Grandparents at Prayer: Meetings of Grandparents at Prayer are 10 a.m. the second Monday of each month at the Old St. Paul’s church building on West Carolina Avenue. Come join other grandparents as they gather for guided prayer and fellowship. Call Cathy Jacobs at 843-437-0442 for more information.
Third Thursday: Summerville DREAM’s Third Thursday is 5:30-8:30 p.m. the third Thursday of every month (Oct. 19, Nov. 16 and Dec. 21) at Hutchinson Square, 102 S. Main St. in Summerville. This event transforms Historic Downtown Summerville into a marketplace featuring local entertainment, craft vendors and artisans, and local shops and restaurants have extended hours. Events are subject to change or cancel without notice.
Jedburg Junction Farmers Market: The Jedburg Junction Farmers Market is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday at 850 E. Butternut Road, Summerville. The farmers market features local farms and artisan vendors. Email [email protected] or call 843-302-5676 for more information.
Magdalene House Sewing Project: The Magdalene House Sewing Project sessions are 6:30-9:30 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at People, Places and Quilts, 129 W. Richardson Ave., Summerville. Join in the fun by making handbags and fabric items that make a difference. All fabrics are supplied, just bring your sewing machine and talent. Sewing Machine Maintenance: This session is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Monday at People, Places & Quilts, 129 W. Richardson Ave., Summerville, by appointment only. Please call PPQ at 843-871-8872 to reserve your spot. Melanie, sewing machine repair technician, will be available to answer maintenance and quick repair questions. Please bring your sewing machine, cord and foot control. If you have a problem that can be addressed in 15 minutes, her goal is to have you sewing again without having to wait so long for service or repair. There is no charge for this service. If your issue requires further service or repair, then you can be placed on her service waiting list.
Open Sewing: This event is 1:15-4:15 p.m. every Thursday at People, Places & Quilts, 129 W. Richardson Ave., Summerville. The cost is $5 per person. If you are a machine or hand sewist, come and enjoy a community sewing day on available Thursdays. Must call PPQ at 843-871-8872 to register and pay. Class size is limited to eight machines and four hand sewists.
PSF Sewing Sessions: This session is 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. every Friday at People, Places & Quilts, 129 W. Richardson Ave., Summerville. The cost is $25 per person for four hours of help, instruction and encouragement. Class size is limited to six people. Need help with a project or kit? Trident Head Injury Support Group: The Trident Head Injury Support Group meets from 6:30-8:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month at 701 E. Bay St., Suite 121, Charleston. Monthly support group meetings are for survivors, caregivers and friends who have acquired the life-changing effects of traumatic brain injury. Quilt ‘n Friends: This group meets from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. every Wednesday at Stallsville United Methodist Church, 255 Stallsville Loop, Summerville (between Trolley Road and Bacon Bridge Road). Stories on the Square: This event is 9:30-10 a.m. every Wednesday at Main Street Reads, 115 S. Main St., Summerville. It is a free event for children of all ages. Join Ashley Bohinc for outdoor story time adventures. The event is outside to ensure proper social distancing. Lots of chairs available for younger listeners, hoola-hoops for distancing and plenty of juice boxes and snacks to munch on while they listen. Student discounts to all attendees. Fleet Reserve Association: The Fleet Reserve Association meets at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at 99 Wisteria Road, Goose Creek.
