North Monterey County Unified School District names interim superintendent

The North Monterey County Unified School District Board of Education appointed Steve Betando to the position of interim superintendent.The appointment was made on Aug. 29.Before the appointment, Betando was retired. He most recently was the interim superintendent for the Evergreen School District in San Jose. Before that, Betando was the Superintendent of the Morgan Hill Unified School District for eight years.Betando replaces Kari Yeater, who resigned abruptly after 12 years on the job. Her last day was Aug. 31.The search for a permanent replacement is underway. The board says the timeline for filling the position is three to six months. Betando plans to work for the district until January.
