Learning Objectives

Students will be able to identify and use the eight parts of speech in the context of a sentence.

Introduction(5 minutes)

Explain that parts of speech are different types of words that we use in English. There are eight parts of speech: nouns, verbs, prepositions, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, conjunctions, and interjections. Show your students a short video about the eight parts of speech (see related media). After the video, have your students “turn and talk” with an elbow partner to see how many of the eight parts of speech they can name.
