Billionaire tech veteran Bill Gates recently shared his thoughts on the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on jobs, saying the technology could lead to a three-day work week.
In a 45-minute-long conversation on comedian Trevor Noah’s “What Now?” podcast, Gates said rapidly-evolving AI won’t replace humans, but will rather “change it forever.”
“If you eventually get a society where you only have to work three days a week, that’s probably OK,” he said, adding that there could come a day when people may not have to work so hard to make ends meet.
In a July blog post, Gates said the future of AI is “not as grim as some people think,” as the technology’s risks can be managed.
“I don’t think AI’s impact will be as dramatic as the Industrial Revolution, but it certainly will be as big as the introduction of the PC. Word processing applications didn’t do away with office work, but they changed it forever,” he noted.
